Clinical Toxinology is a specialized area of clinical medicine focused on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases caused by animals, plants, mushrooms, and bacteria. It encompasses a broad range of medical conditions resulting from envenomation by venomous terrestrial and marine organisms, including poisoning from ingestion of animal and plant toxins.
Toxin-related disease is an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in the tropical and subtropical continents. Snake bite is the single most important toxin-related disease, causing substantial mortality in many parts of Asia.
Toxinology SIG gathers and encourages interested emergency physicians or trainees to venture into the clinical toxinology and works to improve and disseminate accurate clinical toxinology knowledge.
